High achievers are great at pushing through. But pushing through without pause leaves no space to recalibrate. That’s where burnout brews.

In this episode of The Mind Lab, I share a deeply personal story about my father’s passing, and how it unexpectedly taught me one of the most powerful lessons about energy and space: sometimes, transformation happens when we step back.

Why Making Space Matters

We often think of space as physical. But energetically, we carry inputs—the news we consume, the words we speak, the expectations we hold—and those fill our internal and external field.

When we don’t clear that space or transition intentionally between roles and responsibilities, we carry old energy into new moments. And that’s exhausting.

What’s Happening Energetically?

  • Your body has an electromagnetic field that extends beyond your skin.
  • Proximity with others affects your nervous system—this is called co-regulation.
  • Without space, your system stays in overdrive, reacting instead of responding.

Signs You’re Out of Space:

  • You move from one task to another without pause
  • You bring work stress into your home life (or vice versa)
  • You feel like there’s never a moment to breathe or reset

How to Create Space Intentionally

  • Use Conscious Transitions: Before you enter a new space (home, meeting, conversation), pause. Ask: What do I want to bring into this moment?
  • Watch Your Inputs: From the food you eat to the thoughts you entertain—be intentional.
  • Own Your Field: You’re responsible for the energy you bring. It’s not just mindset—it’s biology.
